MAC X AALIYAH
“Aaliyah Haughton is truly one in a million — an inimitable
icon whose ground-breaking work in R and B music and film continues to inspire
us all. Now, we celebrate her impact with the countless fans who asked M·A·C to
honour her. Powered by 90s-glam shades, M·A·C Aaliyah Haughton expresses every
fan's devotion to the music and style trailblazer of a generation.”
When I found out that MAC Cosmetics were releasing an Aaliyah collection, my first thoughts were "that's so cool" and then "why?". I grew up listening to Aaliyah and watching her movies and was devastated when she passed. But the Aaliyah I grew up with wasn't a makeup icon. Yes she wore makeup but she wasn't known for her makeup, hence the confusion with the collection. I thinks it's cool that they wanted to pay tribute with this collection.
The collection consisted of an eyeshadow palette, 4 lipsticks, 4 lip glasses and a bronzing powder. America got 2 lip liners, not sure why we didn't.
I only got a few bits, because the collection didn't really stand out to me. If I'm honest this collection to me doesn't fully represent Aaliyah but it does have some good makeup that you could pick up even if you aren't an Aaliyah fan.
The packaging is really cute, it is metallic burgundy with
Aaliyah’s signature in silver. Only problem is fingerprint marks go EVERYWHERE.

Right: Try Again - Soft Muted beige (matte)
Brooklyn Born - £15.50
Brooklyn Born is a sheer nude with pearl.
(Yes I know Try Again has a spelling error, oops!)
Brooklyn Born
Obviously on its own this is NOT my colour. I bought it to go over top of Try Again.
Hot Like - love this shade.
Try Again - this is a little nuder than I expected, but I'll make it work.
Try again with Brooklyn Born
On my lids:
That Somebody and Princess of Soul in the crease.
Deception centre of the lid and Creative Copper on the inner corner and tear duct.
Princess of Soul on the lower lash line.
The shadows applied really nicely, Deception needed a bit of build up for the full colour pay off.
In general the shadows were the same MAC quality as my other shadows. The metallic shades require you to build up the colour.

On my lips:
Hot Like
The lipsticks are all really good quality and long lasting.
What are your thoughts on the Aaliyah collection? There are still items available on the MAC Cosmetics website if you're interested.
